July 1st 1863) The North had low hopes of winning because of the defeat in chancellor Virginia and the low number of soldiers the Union had to the confederate. The battle began on July 1 Lee had a plan to attack on the northern side this would relieve pressure on Virginia. This attack would also help the Union take control of the Yankees power. Lee's plan worked successfully and caused Hooker to resign. Hooker was soon replaced by George G. Meade. Later in the war Lee traveled to Pennsylvania and ran into Meade. The battle began just outside of gettysburg's. The confederate was outnumbered but did not let that stop them later, the confederates applied pressure in the union lines and killed the union's general. The union soon fell apart and lost the battle.​
